The 21st edition of LABACE, the Latin American Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition, opened on Tuesday 4 August. Regarded as Latin America’s largest business aviation event, the show is being held at Campo de Marte Airport in São Paulo until 6 August, bringing together manufacturers, suppliers and industry enthusiasts.

Among the executive jets and latest-generation helicopters on display, one aircraft stands out to passers-by not only for its luxurious cabin, but also for its colours.

It is PP-HVN, an Agusta A109E Power twin-engined helicopter owned by Beto Carrero World, Latin America’s largest theme park, located in Penha, Santa Catarina. The aircraft is entirely covered in a wrap created by visual artist Romero Britto, the Recife-born artist from Pernambuco who has become one of the best-known names in global pop art. Based in Miami, he has exhibited in more than one hundred countries.

Romero Britto’s Beto Carrero World partnership

Visitors to Beto Carrero World will already be familiar with the collaboration. Since 2022, the park’s Events Square has hosted the world’s largest open-air exhibition of Romero Britto sculptures: 14 works, each measuring around three metres tall, created especially to mark the park’s 30th anniversary.

Painted with metallic microspheres that intensify their vivid colours in sunlight and camera flashes, the sculptures turned the area into a genuine outdoor museum. The space was designed by a New York theme-park design studio.

It was in August 2022 that Romero Britto arrived at the park aboard this very helicopter, decorated with his characteristic lines and colours, for the exhibition’s opening. Now a visual signature of the partnership, the aircraft takes the same aesthetic that transformed the park grounds into the sky: bright colours, geometric patterns and the optimism associated with the “Happy Art Movement”, an artistic movement Britto himself helped to popularise.

In addition to the sculptures, the artist created Beto Carrero World’s official sign, a commemorative logo and even a painting inspired by the iconic photograph of Beto Carrero with his leopard - a gesture that, according to the park, represents “the meeting of two creative worlds: art and fantasy”.

Agusta A109E Power: PP-HVN’s role

Aviation enthusiasts will know the model well, but it is worth outlining it for those beginning to discover the world of helicopters. The Agusta A109E Power is a light twin-engined helicopter built by Italy’s Agusta, now part of the Leonardo Group. Recognised for its versatility, speed and performance, it is among the preferred models for executive and corporate transport, precisely the type of operation for which Beto Carrero World uses the aircraft.

PP-HVN, serial number 11768, is privately operated by the business. It is often seen over Santa Catarina, particularly near Navegantes, the airport serving the Penha area where the park is situated.

A colourful highlight at LABACE

The helicopter’s appearance at LABACE is especially timely. Organised by ABAG (the Brazilian General Aviation Association) in partnership with NBAA (the National Business Aviation Association), the exhibition is the meeting point for Latin America’s business aviation community. This year’s 21st edition features the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, as well as sector suppliers and service providers, and is expected to attract around 12,000 visitors across the event’s three days.

Amid intercontinental jets and cutting-edge helicopters, Beto Carrero World’s Agusta A109E, displayed on the Synerjet stand, draws attention precisely because it is different. It shows that aviation can also serve as a canvas for art - and that a helicopter can be both a flying machine and a work by Romero Britto.
