Each year, on the first Monday in May, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art hosts the traditional Met Gala, held to raise money for the museum’s fashion and costume design department. This year, the event was themed “Fashion Is Art”, ahead of the “Costume Art” exhibition, which opens to the public next Sunday. As ever, some of the biggest names in music, film and fashion attended, taking particular care over their outfits.

Celebrity looks on the red carpet

Bad Bunny chose to appear several years older, made up as his future self and leaning on a walking stick. Madonna arrived dressed as a witch, accompanied by a group of ‘fairies’. Beyoncé attended with her husband, Jay Z, and their daughter, Blue Ivy; Rihanna came with her partner, A$AP Rocky; while Heidi Klum opted for a ghostly look.

Other figures to walk the red carpet included Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX and Sam Smith; actresses Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts; actors Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, stars of “Heated Rivalry”; model Kate Moss; sisters Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner; and Georgina Rodríguez, Cristiano Ronaldo’s partner.
