With 94% of children aged four to six exposed to screens every day, while 60% of parents feel guilty about device use, Shopping Villa-Lobos is offering a creative offline alternative for the June and July holidays. Following the outstanding public response to its previous themed editions, including Christmas, Carnival and Easter, Shopping Villa-Lobos is extending Villa Glow’s run and introducing a new holiday season of Pintando no Escuro, an intimate sensory experience built around one simple idea: when the lights go out, imagination lights up.
Featuring an original Dinosaurs theme, the attraction takes the form of an immersive studio and offers a 30-minute digital break. Unlike the conventional immersive exhibitions currently available, which are often passive, observational experiences, this project makes its visitors active participants.
How the Pintando no Escuro experience works
The experience breaks away from the usual theme-park format from the very start. Instead of a formal reception, children receive a warm welcome from actors who interact with them and draw them into the theme.
Each session opens with the “Dive”, a short, playful fable that combines entertainment with learning. It explains, for instance, how dinosaurs gave rise to the birds of today. Once the story ends, children are invited to help “call” the dinosaurs. The white lights are then switched off and ultraviolet (UV) lighting takes centre stage.
This is when the magic begins. Accompanied by a soundtrack created exclusively for the show, participants are given “magic paints” in a ritual-like presentation. Every stroke of fluorescent paint becomes living light across the canvases. For the holiday season, as well as the standard canvases included with admission, visitors can choose to paint small dinosaur replicas. At the end of the session, participants take their own artwork home, creating a tangible memory of the day.
An intimate format for family connection
In line with the growing focus on comfortable, inclusive experiences, each session welcomes no more than 20 people. This format creates a safe, welcoming and meaningful setting centred on genuine connection. Parents, teenagers, couples and even grandparents are often seen sharing brushes with younger children. The venue is also fully pet-friendly, so the family’s pets can join in the fun.
The attraction is a proprietary project created and operated by Agência Limão ou Limonada, a creative studio specialising in placemaking and premium family experiences.
