Serralves em Luz brings 20 light installations to Porto

Serralves em Luz, now in its fourth edition, is being staged in the grounds of the Serralves Foundation in Porto until 8 November. Creative direction is by Nuno Maya, for a project developed in collaboration with the Serralves Park management team. Production is handled by the OCUBO studio.

Serralves em Luz: light, sound and sustainability

Built around a commitment to sustainability, innovation and creativity, the event features 20 illuminated art installations across a route of around two kilometres. According to the organisers, "each work uses multimedia, interactivity, sound and visual effects, establishing its own relationship with Serralves’ spaces, flora and architectural elements".

Seven Portuguese musicians - Francisco Rebelo, Gonçalo Garcia dos Santos, Inóspita, Maria João, Noiserv, Pedro Antunes and Rodrigo Leão - have created the musical works accompanying the route. The Serralves Foundation adds that they "created compositions that accompany the route, exploring the contrast between sound and silence, much like the visual contrast represented by light and darkness".

The “Light vs darkness” route

Under the theme "Light vs darkness" ("Light versus darkness"), the trail invites visitors to consider the coexistence of brightness and shadow. Along the way, the vegetation, architecture and open areas "become the stage for a continual encounter between what is seen and what remains hidden, creating a distinctive atmosphere that completely transforms the usual perception of the Park".

Visiting times and ticket prices

Until 10 August, visits run from 21:30 to 01:00. From 11 to 31 August, the opening hours are 21:00 to 01:00. Between 1 and 14 September, the event is open from 20:30 to midnight, with Friday and Saturday sessions extended until 01:00. From 15 September to 5 October, it runs from 20:00 to midnight, again until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. From 6 October to 8 November, the hours are 19:30 to midnight, with Friday and Saturday opening extended to 01:00.

A full-price ticket costs €15. Children aged three and under enter free of charge.
